As part of its mission, the Catalina Conservancy is dedicated to education and training. This focus also is part of the mission of CCD. Our goal with education is to bring information and data from our research to the public. We feel that with knowledge about our oceans in general, and in particular the waters around Catalina, people will be able to make more informed decisions about their own actions and how those actions might impact the inhabitants of Catalina's marine ecosystems.

Training is also an important component of aspect of the activities of CCD. Initially our training efforts were dedicated primarily to developing a group of recreational divers that were trained in scientific research methods and procedures. These training activities were conducted by members of our Scientific Advisory Board and divers who completed the training were integrated into research projects that are conducted by CCD. This training efforts has been expanded to include both basic and advanced training classes as well as specialized classes designed to meet specific objectives.
